Off-Track Go-Karting in Piñones with Carrito Tour
If you like adult “toy” vehicles, you are going to enjoy go-karting on the little dirt roads that go along coast of Piñones on Road 187. These bulked-up go-karts are super fun! This is a guide-led tour just off the beach area, so you are in good hands while you have a blast!
Carrito Tour is a small company operating in the Piñones area of Loíza. They are located just a few minutes from the San Juan area, along a beautiful stretch of palm tree lined coast. They offer guided tours on on go-karts among the palm trees just beyond the beach area. These are low to the ground go-karts (as opposed to ATVs), so it feels like you are going faster than you are, and it is even more exciting!
Our Tour
You meet them on Road 187 at the pre-determined time (reservations are required) at their a “mobile office” (a trailer) that serves as both go-kart storage and their office. After the typical paperwork, the tour starts promptly. They give you the “how-to” training, and then off you go. These are super easy to drive – no brakes, just a gas pedal and the steering wheel!
The tour guide is first in line, making sure the way is clear and the rest of the go-karts follow him. On this tour, you drive on the sand road that runs along the coast. It is a little twisty through palm trees and bushes. We did figure eights, and circles around trees. There are some beautiful views of the ocean as you zip by. The tour guide was super attentive, he made sure we were doing fine driving, and took time to take photos of us at our beach stop.
We had one quick stop at a beach area, where you can get up and stretch a bit, take a walk on the beach, and take photos. We had a lot of fun.
These are not new vehicles, but they are maintained. The go-kart in front of us took a big bump and a wire nut popped off, but our guide was quick to replace it and we were off again in minutes. One thing you will have to overlook is all the dumped trash along this little route. Not at all the fault of the company, it just is there. Luckily the beach and views are beautiful.
